Meet Our Team
Dr. Rima Bakhru, OD, FOVDRA, FAAO
Dr. Rima Bakhru received her Doctorate in Optometry from SUNY College of Optometry in 2015 with honors, where she went on to complete a residency in the area of Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation, with a brain injury emphasis. She is also a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) and a fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (FCOVD.)
Dr. Bakhru is one of few physicians in New York City trained in the growing field of neuro-optometric rehabilitation therapy. Dr. Bakhru has evaluated hundreds of patients across the NYC metropolitan area with neurological trauma — be it from a concussion, neurosurgery, stroke, auto-immune disease or vestibular dysfunction. She uses her expertise to create custom therapeutic protocols to both rehabilitate and help patients compensate for debilitating visual symptoms such as light sensitivity, double vision, difficulty reading and visual field loss.
In 2016, Dr. Bakhru began offering both vision therapy and neuro-optometric rehabilitation therapy in Park Slope. During this time, she became more passionate about developmental optometry and pediatric vision therapy. She works closely with many other interdisciplinary specialists in the area to co-manage our youngest patients who are just learning how to see, move, focus, and team their eyes. She enjoys trying to make vision therapy fun and engaging for kids and adults alike!
In February 2020, Dr. Bakhru opened Brooklyn Vision Therapy - the first clinic in Brooklyn specializing exclusively in this area. She is proud to be a first-generation minority and female doctor and business owner. Her mission is to increase both awareness and access to this little known, but powerful therapy.
Dr. Bakhru is also an Assistant Clinical Professor at SUNY College of Optometry, where she supervises students and residents in the vision therapy and rehabilitation department. She is enthusiastic about her clinical teaching role and enjoys sharing her passion and knowledge with the next generation of optometrists.
In her free time, Dr. Bakhru enjoys exploring Brooklyn, travel, drawing and live music.
